Our Journey towards a New Nigeria
The Nigeria Diaspora Action Group (NDAG) was established in August 2022 by Nigerians in the diaspora who believed strongly that we must play an active role in shaping the future of our country. At that time, many Nigerians around the world were inspired by the candidacy of former Anambra State Governor, Peter Obi, during the **2023 Nigerian Presidential Election. His campaign awakened a renewed sense of hope and civic responsibility among millions of Nigerians both at home and abroad.
It was within that atmosphere of renewed national consciousness that NDAG was born.
What started as a small three-person consultation forum quickly grew into a broader network of committed Nigerians in the diaspora who shared a common objective — the pursuit of a New Nigeria built on accountability, integrity, and opportunity for all.
During the early stages of our development, NDAG engaged with other Nigerian diaspora organisations here in the United Kingdom and participated actively in sensitisation rallies and consultations. We also held discussions with representatives of the Labour Party Nigeria UK Chapter, exploring ways in which the diaspora could support the movement for political reform in Nigeria.
The visit of Peter Obi to the United Kingdom provided further opportunities for engagement and collaboration. Following these interactions, NDAG was formally recognised as a support group for the Obi–Datti campaign during the 2023 election period.
While the outcome of the election did not meet the expectations of many Nigerians who had hoped for a new direction for the country, the spirit and momentum that emerged from that movement continue to guide our activities today.
Importantly, NDAG’s mission has always extended beyond politics.
From inception, we recognised that the diaspora has a critical role to play not only in political advocacy but also in community development, humanitarian support, and civic engagement.
As part of our outreach efforts in Nigeria, NDAG supported initiatives in several parts of the country, particularly in the northern states including Kogi, Kano, and Kaduna. Through collaboration with local groups, we supported medical outreach programmes, community mobilisation efforts, and charitable initiatives aimed at assisting vulnerable communities in Edo, Imo etc.
These activities were made possible largely through the generosity and commitment of our members and supporters.
However, we also recognise that relying solely on donations limits the scale of what we can achieve. For this reason, NDAG has taken steps toward establishing sustainable structures that will allow us to expand our impact. One such initiative is the establishment of NDAG Consults Nigeria Limited, which is intended to serve as a platform through which we can develop structured programmes and deploy development initiatives across Nigeria and the wider region.
Keeping the Vision
Today, several years after our formation, NDAG stands at an important point in its journey.
The organisation is evolving from a movement inspired by a particular political moment into a sustainable diaspora platform focused on long-term national development.
Our goals going forward include strengthening our membership base, expanding diaspora partnerships, supporting community initiatives in Nigeria, and continuing to advocate for accountability and good governance.
But none of this can happen without the continued participation and dedication of our members. It gives us the opportunity to reflect on how far we have come, assess where we are today, and collectively determine the direction we want NDAG to take in the future.
To our new members and friends, we welcome you warmly. NDAG is a platform built on collaboration, shared ideas, and collective action. Your contributions, perspectives, and expertise will be essential as we continue to grow.
Together, we remain committed to the vision that first brought us together — a Nigeria that works for all its citizens, both at home and in the diaspora.
